4th of July at the River

video

This is a cross post from Mom and Bob's Blog:

A picture is worth a thousand words....and a video is priceless......
You can enjoy our little bit of precious Americana thru the video above that Tiffany created of the Golf Cart parade at Pearson's Island, Simonson, Virginia, along the shores of the Rappahannock River, where Moraticco and Lancaster Creeks come together.

Every year we gather for a Fourth of July feast...this year Sandy and Dean hosted every one at the lovely and historic Indian Banks (think Captain John Smith and those Indians...yes, it's pretty old -1699!) and after a smashing feast, the decorated carts, tractors, trucks and trailers took to the roads to celebrate this country's Independence, for which we are very grateful.

As you watch, you'll see the backdrop for the little parade...cornfields, creeks and marshes, roaming dogs and great blue herons....I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!

And a huge Happy Birthday to Bob today!

Anniversary at Ocean City

Tiffany and I decided to check out Ocean City for our anniversary this year. Though our actual anniversary was on Saturday, we decided to take a few days off and go from Wednesday to Friday to miss the crowds.
The weather didn't really cooperate with us, but we had a nice time, anyway. Wednesday evening we walked the boardwalk and enjoyed the view from the balcony of our hotel that overlooked the boardwalk and the ocean. The hotel was an old beach cottage that had been converted to one room units and sat just behind the row of buildings that line the boardwalk. It's located on 10th street, convenient to the boardwalk and all the fun, but also in the path of all of the beach-week crowds. We really liked how the boardwalk in Ocean City has all kinds of Mom and Pop shops and little restaurants along it. The boardwalk in VA Beach was quite different in that all the shops were on Atlantic Avenue, so you couldn't do the shops and see the ocean at the same time.
Thursday it rained off and on all day, and when it rained it poured...sideways. We walked up the boardwalk to a restaurant for breakfast during one of the breaks in rain, and then drove north to Bethany Beach and did some walking around. It's a quaint little area. We noticed the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour signs all around town but weren't sure what the dates were, until Thursday evening when we went for dinner at Tony's and saw the tents going up. We really lucked out on Friday; the weather cleared off and we got to watch some great volleyball. The olympic gold metalists Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhauser were playing along with some other big names. We picked up a ball and had it autographed by both of them along with Elaine Youngs and Nicole Branagh, who ended up 5th at the '08 olympics. Watching the players was amazing.

The Yard

I took some pictures around the yard to document what's blooming this time of year in the yard. Mary, the previous owner was an avid Gardener, so there are tons of perennials around the yard. I just can't remember where everything is from to year, so hopefully this will help.

First, I'll share photos of the three Irises that have bloomed thus far. Mary had tons of purple Irises, but many of them didn't bloom since they hadn't been seperated in many years. My dear friend Carolyn in VA Beach gave me some beautiful creamsicle orange Iris bulbs in the fall and they are starting to bloom. Here's a photo of the three Irises that I cut today.

Here are the rest of the Yard Photos:

Scott's Birthday at St. Micheal's

For Scott's Birthday, we celebrated by spending the day at the St. Micheal's Food and Wine Festival. The weather was gorgeous and we really enjoyed touring around the quaint little village on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Unfortunately, the festival didn't work out so well for us. We thought there would be lots of good food there since "food" was first in the title, but unfortunately it was more focused around the wine tasting and since we don't drink, that didn't really thrill us.

But, we enjoyed walking through the sidewalk stores in town and eating ice-cream at the local hang-out. :-)

The Bathroom Finale'

At long last, the upstairs bathroom remodeling project is complete. Below is a video tour for your viewing pleasure!

We have many more posts coming, we're just having a hard time trying to find time to post them with trying to keep up with the yard work and get the garden planted now that it's gotten warmer.

The Old and the New (Bathroom that is)

All we have to left to do now is paint the door and the door trim white. Then Scott is going to make some built-in shelves that will fit in under the dormer and in about 2 weeks the new shower door will be put in.
I'm so exited! It feels like new!

SNOW and Bathroom Update

We had quite a bit of snow here this past weekend. But, the best part was that we had the day off yesterday to work on the bathroom. :-)

So here's a few pics of Dixie out in the 5-6 inches of snow we had:

And here's a sneak peak at the bathroom. We don't have the light fixture up yet so the lighting isn't very good. But, the toilet works and Scott is hooking up the faucet to the sink as I write, so I should have running water in the bathroom tonight!
