The weekend of September 29th found us at a Sesquicentennial Memorial for the GA Confederate Soldiers. We met Pop Pop and Uncle Charlie just outside of the Bloody Cornfield and then toured Bloody Lane and Burnsides Bridge. On the way to Sharpsburg we stopped by South Mountain Creamery in Middleton to show Hayden where we are getting our milk delivered from. He liked the cows until they starting mooing and licking his Daddy's hand. Then he got a little scared. ;-)
Here's a quick tid bit on the War Between the States: The Battle of Sharpsburg, known in the North as the Battle of Antietam, resulted in not only the bloodiest day of the American Civil War but the bloodiest single day in all of American history with an estimated 23,000 casualties. As a frame of reference, the estimated total number of casulaties in the War Between the States is 562,130. For WWII, the total number of casualties is estimated at 408,306. The number of Allied casulaties on d'Day is estimated at 10,000.
