A Fun Weekend with My Cousins

This weekend Mom brought Kristen and Trey up for a visit. They are my cousin Kristy's children and they live in my hometown, Mechanicsville, just outside of Richmond.

Sat morning Scott and Trey got up around 3:00 am (!) to go hunting. They met Scott's friend, Jason in Annapolis and went to the Eastern Shore of MD almost to Delaware to find some geese! Unfortunately (or fortunately) they didn't bring any home for dinner, but it sounded like they had a good time out in the woods in 20 degree weather. ;-)

While the men were out hunting, Mom and Kristen and I made home-made chocolate chip cookies using Bonnie's recipe (my visiting teacher from Odenton). Kristen did most of the cooking and of course Mom gave us lots of good tips along the way. It was fun and the cookies were delish! Thanks Bonnie for sharing the recipe.

After baking cookies, Kristen played several songs from her Christmas recital on her violin for us. We had no idea how skilled she was! You can listen to her on the video below:

After listening to her beautiful music, we decided to make some cards down at my "craft station" in the basement. I taught Kristen how to use the embossing tool with the stamps, which she seemed to have fun with. We made cards for her Mom and other folks and later on Trey made some cards too.

Once the boys returned home, we had some lunch down at the Friendly's on main street (Frederick Rd) in Catonsville and then spent the rest of the afternoon at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. I hadn't been to the Aquarium since I was a little girl, when Granny and Grandpa took me there and I have to say it was really fun! They have big fish, little fish, yellow fish, blue fish, striped fish, ruffled fish, anemones, octopuses, tree frogs, you name it- they have it there! I was entertained the entire time I was there!

On our way back from the Aquarium, we stopped by the local Asian Market to show the kids some of the exotic fruits and veggies that the H-mart carries. Trey was very adventuresome and ate the samples of Asian Pears and sauteed mushrooms that they were giving out for free. But, Scott didn't realize that the mushrooms had wasabi sauce on them until poor Trey's mouth was on FIRE! Sorry Trey!

The kids had never had kiwis, or raspberries before, so we picked up some of those for them to try along with some kumquats.

Here is video of Trey playing in the bubble tubes at the Aquarium along with the pictures from our weekend:

We really enjoyed spending the weekend with them. Hopefully they can come and visit us again soon!
